Cranes at the ATLAS site.


A small digger down in the cavern for the ATLAS detector.
The LHC accelerator and detectors are 100 metres below the French countryside.

Pipes contain cold saline solution, freezing the soil, so that the ground water doesn't seep in.
Ken and "his crew" in hard hats. It rained, snowed, and sleeted on us.

After the ground is frozen, they dig the shaft.

The building in the background, sitting on stilts, is the size of the ATLAS detector that is being built.
