Assess Prior Knowledge

In a small group make two lists on a large sheet of paper:

• What you know about acceleration of particles.
• Questions that you have about accelerators or ideas that you aren't sure about.

You need to know these concepts before you go further:

1. What is the relativisitic relationship for energy and momentum? If you do not know, go to Energy-Mometnum.

2. If you build an accelerator to give the particles greater momentum, what factors must you change in the design of a circular accelerator? Think about your experiments with the Helmholz coils or On-Screen Particle Physics software.
